The City of Dixon is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Randy Shafer as Fire Chief of the Dixon Fire Department, effective earlier this year. With over 20 years of dedicated service and progressive leadership within the department, Chief Shafer brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of excellence to his new role.
Having served as Acting Fire Chief for a year, Chief Shafer has demonstrated exceptional leadership and operational oversight. Throughout his tenure, he has held various key positions in the Dixon Fire Department including Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. His responsibilities have encompassed department operations, incident command, and strategic planning, all aimed at enhancing the safety and readiness of the Dixon community.
Chief Shafer has been instrumental in strengthening communications and building departmental resilience. He has implemented proactive strategies to improve public safety, focusing on training, resource allocation, and support services, including fleet and facilities management. His commitment to accountability and community engagement has been pivotal in advancing the department's mission.

Established in 1871, the Dixon Fire Department provides fire protection for the City of Dixon and the Dixon Fire Protection District. The Department serves a combined population of nearly 25,000, covering an area of 320 square miles. Seven square miles of service area are within the city limits and 313 square miles are in the Dixon Fire Protection District through a protection contract. The Department provides fire protection, paramedic level emergency medical response, fire prevention services, public fire safety education, fire investigations, and emergency management.
