Reminder: Help Keep Dixon Clean - Signs Are Prohibited in the Public Right-of-Way

DIXON, Calif. - We all have a role in taking care of our community and keeping Dixon clean, safe and welcoming. The City is asking residents, businesses and organizations to help by making sure signs are placed only where they are permitted.

Signs may not be placed in the public right-of-way or on public property unless authorized by the City of Dixon or otherwise permitted by law. This includes streets, sidewalks, medians, public parking lots, utility poles, traffic-control devices, parks, City fencing and similar public areas. This applies to all types of signs, including campaign and political signs, yard sale and moving sale signs, lost or free pet signs, and signs advertising businesses, events or causes.

With election season underway, the City would like to remind residents and campaigns that political signs must comply with these requirements. Anyone who has placed a sign in an unauthorized location is asked to remove it.

Unauthorized signs may be removed as part of routine Public Works maintenance. The City will also continue to respond to code enforcement complaints on a case-by-case basis. To report an unauthorized sign or other code enforcement concern, residents can use the City of Dixon app at www.cityofdixonca.gov/departments/PublicWorks/App. To learn more or apply for an encroachment permit, visit Dixon Civic Access on the City of Dixon website.

A good rule of thumb: If it isn’t your property, don’t post a sign without permission. And remember, the City is a property owner too.

Taking care of Dixon is a community effort. Thank you for doing your part to keep our streets, neighborhoods and public spaces clean, safe and welcoming.
