City of Dixon to Consider Temporary Ban on Data Centers and Battery Storage in Upcoming Special Meeting

DIXON, Calif. – The City of Dixon has announced a special City Council meeting to consider an urgency ordinance that would establish a temporary moratorium on new applications for data centers and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within Dixon city limits.

This special meeting was prompted by recent City Council discussions regarding Dixon’s regulations and ability to manage these specific types of development, as well as a noticeable statewide increase in the development of data centers and BESS facilities. The Council is prioritizing the evaluation of potential strains on local infrastructure and environmental impacts of BESS or data center operations within Dixon city limits.

“This action would be strictly intended to press pause on potential applications so that we can do our due diligence in researching and understanding these types of developments,” said Mayor Steve Bird. “It could afford Dixon the time to take a step back and evaluate the best possible options as we navigate uncharted territory and seek to make the best decisions for our community going forward.”

If adopted by City Council at the upcoming special meeting, the urgency ordinance would immediately go into effect for a period of 45 days. The Council would then have the authority to extend the moratorium in the future via a subsequent ordinance if additional time is needed.

Residents and community members are encouraged to attend the upcoming special meeting to learn more.
